A recent study led by Caitlin McArthur examined the effect of the pandemic on resident’s mental health in long-term care homes. The results were not as expected, some homes’ mental health was seen to have no change during the pandemic. This could be due to some of the unique strategies implemented such as aiding older people to work an iPad, music therapy or even exercise groups. The researchers hope this will inspire an evolution and permanent change in long-term care homes to make the last months or years as comfortable as possible for residents.
